“Sisters Aoife and Deirdre Granville hail from Dingle, County Kerry and are
renowned Irish traditional musicians and singers and have recorded numerous
albums between them. They are much sought after as performers and teachers
and this will be their second visit to Newfoundland after having performed at
the Séamus Creagh festival in 2016. Aoife is considered one of the main
figures in Irish traditional flute playing today and also plays fiddle and
sings. Deirdre is a renowned harpist, flute player and singer and a founding
member of Harp Ireland. Joining the Granvilles are Níall Ó Beaglaoich on
accordion, a member of the renowned musical family from West Kerry and
Michael Meade on guitar and banjo, from Cork, also a gifted and renowned
photographer. The group will perform traditional music from Kerry and Cork
and songs in Irish and English.

Aoife Granville is highly regarded as a multi-instrumentalist and singer from
Dingle, Co. Kerry in Ireland. She has performed, toured and recorded
extensively and released her second solo album, Sáimhín Só, in April 2014.
Aoife is regarded as an influential figure in the contemporary Irish fluting
tradition and holds a PhD in Ethnomusicology University College Cork. Aoife
was awarded with a Bene Merenti award from UCC for her contribution to
traditional music and has won numerous prizes at Oireachtas and Fleadhanna
Cheoil, including the prestigious Senior Flute title in 2003. Aoife released
her debut album, Sráid Eoin Shuffle, in 2006. Aoife teaches, lectures and
researches Irish traditional music, festival music and popular music culture.

Hailing also from Dingle, Co. Kerry; a multi-instrumentalist and singer,
Deirdre Granville studied both traditional and classical music from a young
age. She has toured and performed extensively worldwide and has been featured
on Radio, commercial recordings and TV performances both solo and with other
celebrated musicians including Kerry Chamber and Youth Orchestras, Aoife
Granville, folk singing group; Deluce’s Patent and duo; Sirmione amongst
others. A music graduate from University College Cork and a MA performance

in the summer of 2015.

Mike Meade is a banjo and guitar player based in Cork, Ireland. Mike has
recorded with both Aoife Granville and Deirdre Granville. When not playing
music, Mike works as a photographer and film-maker in the Cork area.

Niall Begley is a button accordion player from a well-known West Kerry
musical family and has been playing traditional music since he was a young
boy. His playing is influenced by accordion greats like Seamus Begley, Tony
MacMahon, Jackie Daly and Joe Burke. Níall was a finalist in the Seán Ó

It was a great night, and after their two sets there was a session with
them and some local musicians for a good while, and I ended up
having six pints in total. :-)
